David Monk is an artist, educator and scientist who interprets the natural and cultural landscape and engages in practices that help to maintain environmental well being. He has degrees in agricultural science and education. He is also an artist. Monk grew up in a rural Australia. He came to the United States to obtain a higher degree and stayed largely because of a deep commitment to a rapidly dwindling prairie ecosystem. He has been instrumental in promoting the preservation of some of the last remnants of prairie in East Central Illinois. Monk co-hosts the "Prairie Monk" community radio program that deals with environmental interests, activities and issues.
